A comfortable and hassle-free way to see some really cool parts of Bali

A comfortable and hassle-free way to see some really cool parts of Bali We had a great private tour of Ubud and the surrounding areas with our guide, Berata. He was super friendly and really knowledgeable of local culture and customs - I loved how he struck the perfect balance between being conversational and informative and just enjoying the silence, and as someone who has an actual allergy to small talk and chit chat, this was absolutely ideal. Berata picked us up from our hotel in a spacious, comfortable car and off we went on our tour, he expertly guided us through the Monkey Forest, Tegallang Rice Terraces, and Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu - all stunning in their own way. We also had a fabulous visit to Lumbung Sari House of Luwak Coffee, our guide there was fantastic, we really enjoyed learning about how they made coffee and especially enjoyed tasting them all! Berata was incredibly accommodating and patient throughout the day, we never felt rushed or like we were being crowbarred into his schedule, we were able to enjoy each part for as long, or as short, as we wanted. The lunch at d’Alas, which we had just after the Rice Terraces, was really tasty and it was set in a fantastic location. We were able to unwind with a couple of beers for over an hour before we set off again, like I say, we never felt rushed or harried, and we were able to leave once we were ready, albeit, we knew he was waiting so we were mindful of his time. I think if I’d had to plan all of this myself, which is what I normally do, and had the faff of booking all the taxis and buying the tickets and knitting it all together into a day trip, I would have felt very differently about this whole thing, but because this takes the sting out of all of that, it’s great being able to see all these cool places hassle-free. The only downside was the time spent in the car, this certainly wasn’t Berata’s fault, it’s because of where we’re staying and traffic - we’re staying in Nusa Dua and have had to accept if we want to get out of the resort and see more of Bali we’re going to be in cars a lot. Normally, if we’re spending a day out and about on holiday exploring we’d easily do over 20k steps, whereas here, we only did just over 7k. Again, that’s nobody's fault, it’s just the nature of these types of tours, and on balance, what you gain definitely makes it worth it. I think what you lose is that sense that you’re properly exploring the island and all that it entails (which is good and bad). Overall, this is a comfortable, hassle-free way of seeing some really cool parts of Bali, with the added bonus of having a local guide who can really fill in the blanks and give you insight into local history and culture. If you’re planning a relaxing holiday but still want to see the island, this is perfect.
